| 1. Can I use essential oils whilst pregnant? |
| It is advised to avoid all essential oils during the first trimester of pregnancy and then use essential oils that are recommended as safe.

| 2. How do I store my essential oils? |
| Store them away from the effects of heat, light and air to help them maintain their potency, and make sure they are tightly sealed in dark glass bottles. Keep out of reach of children & animals. Do not let essential oils come into contact with plastic containers, such as bottles, bowls, jugs etc. |
| 3. Safety Issues? |
| Do not ingest essential oils
Essential oils should be diluted be applying to the skin (usually in a vegetable oil)
If you are pregnant, epileptic, have liver damage, have cancer or any medical problem, use oils only under proper guidance of a certified aromatherapy practioner.
Always avoid contact with the eyes
If you should experience irritation to the skin from an essential oil, do not rub the area with water, doing so will cause the irritation to spread. Apply any vegetable/carrier oil to the area; this will cause the essential oil to be absorbed and should ease the irritation within minutes.
Remember more is not better! |
| 4. What Are Essential Oils? |
| Essential oils are the highly concentrated volatile extract of flowers herbs, grasses, shrubs and trees. These tiny droplets are present in particular glands, hairs or specific structures of the plant and contain some (but not all) of the active principles of the plant. Similar to herbal therapy principles, essential oils are phytochemicals with particular biological properties. Non-oily in texture, these highly concentrated substances are obtained by various methods, the most common been steam distillation. Only therauptic grade essential should be used in aromatherapy. The majority of essential oils produced in the world market are used in the food flavor and fragrance industry, so essential oils are often found on the market adulterated with similar essential oils, chemicals and synthetics, as well as extenders such as dipropylene glycol. Unfortunately, even the type used in food can be adjusted with chemicals from a natural source and still legally be called natural. Therefore, it is wise to purchase only from a reputable aromatherapy source. |
